Peugeot Wants To Take On The Renault Arkana With The New 308 SUV Coupe
We know it will happen, but we don’t know what it will be called, thoughby Alina Moore, on LISTEN 01:49
We’ve heard the first rumors about a possible Peugeot SUV Coupe in early 2022. The model is, of course, in its very first stages of development, and for now, there are a lot of rumors about a possible name for it. Monikers like 308 SUV, 3008 Coupe, or 408 are just a few of them. However, no matter what it will be christened, the new SUV Coupe will take on models like the Renault Arkana.
Our spy photographers caught a strange-looking, high-riding Peugeot 308 based mule, with a wider track and a longer wheelbase. This mule was caught testing somewhere in Sweden, but there is also a production body prototype of that upcoming SUV coupe model in a different place.
The model will be built on the same platform as the current Peugeot 308, but it will look like a coupe SUV and will have a higher ride height than the hatchback. The new model will be placed in between the 308 and the 3008, but, for now, there are no details on its specifications.
Rumors suggest that the future 308 SUV could be offered with a PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine, combined with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Another possibility is a plug-in hybrid system that could develop between 180- and 250 horsepower. The model could also offer a more powerful, Hybrid4 version that will develop around 300 horsepower. Just like with the current 3008, the Hybrid4 version will be the only one offering an all-wheel-drive system.
The new Peugeot 308 SUV will probably be unveiled in the spring of 2023, with sales commencing shortly after.
