The Blazer EV SS will be unveiled later this year and will go on sale in spring next year. It will take on the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y. Watch this space.

Reviving old nameplates can be a tricky business for automakers. Ford got it so right with the Bronco, but the same can’t be said about the Chevy Blazer. The Current Blazer is just like any other Crossover out there, but GM certainly wants to change that image.

The teaser didn’t reveal much aside from the illuminated charging point and the charge door closing electronically

That could probably be why they chose to use their revered SS nameplate on the upcoming Blazer EV. SS of course as most of you may know stands for SuperSport and is only reserved for Chevy’s high-performance cars like the Camaro SS.

The Teaser

The short 20-second clip doesn’t reveal much aside from a car that was on charge with an illuminated charge ring, before being unplugged, following which the charge-port door shuts electronically. The clip also showed off the SS Badge on the SUV’s wheels that are rocking a two-tone finish.

If you recall, GM CEO, Mary Barra announced the Blazer EV along with the Equinox EV at CES 2022. Both models will hit the road as 2024 model year cars and will go on sale in Spring 2023. They will be underpinned by GM’s BEV3 platform that utilizes GM’s new Ultium Battery tech. Models like the Equinox EV will retail for around $30,000 and will help GM drive wide-spread EV adoption for the brand.

Both models will lead the way for GM’s $35 billion push to electrify its portfolio by 2040. EVs in GM’s current lineup include models like the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, the Cadillac Lyriq, the GMC Sierra EV, and the Hummer EV SUV and pickup.

The Blazer EV will take on the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y. Now, all that needs to be seen is if the new Blazer EV can live up to the SS badge.
