Maserati’s first EV, the GranTurismo Folgore has been spotted and it will most likely debut in 2023

Maserati’s road to electrification has begun, and here’s your first glimpse at the company’s first fully electric vehicle, the GranTurismo Folgore. The Folgore was spotted winter testing recently, but it is still some time away. The automaker will roll out the fuel-powered GranTurismo before the electric version, which means the EV might debut next year and arrive in 2024.

‘Folgore’ in Italian means ‘lightning, which is a pretty cool name for an EV. Although we have no information on its drivetrain, the name suggests it could be a powerful machine. The fact that it will be powered by three electric motors further testifies our assumption. There will also be an 800-Volt electrical system in here.

In terms of aesthetics, we can decipher a few things despite the heavy camouflage. For starters, there is ‘Folgore’ and ‘GranTurismo’ lettering on the skin Maserati has used here. Observe carefully and you can notice a charging port on the rear that’s not camouflaged for some reason.

The car is seen driving in the snow on some pretty slick wheels and tires. The two-door coupe is actually a four-seater, thus targeted as a practical, sporty electric car. Since there is no internal combustion engine here, expect a healthy frunk space.

There are no shots of the cabin yet, but you can expect it to be heavy on tech, just like most of the EVs on the market. As we mentioned earlier, there will be an internal combustion-engined of the GranTurismo coming in first, probably debuting later this year as a 2023 model. It will be powered by a twin-turbo V-6 engine. This will be followed by the electric ‘Folgore’ that could be launched in 2023, but could arrive in 2024.
