What makes the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ F1® Medical Car unique?
The new AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ F1 Medical Car looks pretty much identical to the production car, except for a few details that will give its purpose away. First of all, there is a light bar mounted on the roof on a carbon-fiber scoop. This move was necessary to offer the possible wind resistance and to optimize the airflow towards the fixed rear wing.
Just like the Safety Car, the Medical car is finished in a very cool red - a tribute to both Mercedes‑AMG and CrowdStrike - the sponsor of the safety and medical cars. This red finish creates a very cool contrast with the black aerodynamic elements and the black AMG alloy wheels with the red edges. FIA Formula One World Championship and the AMG logo are incorporated into the lower section of the doors, the bonnet, and the rear. The headlights and rear lights with signal function and the illuminated rear number plate with “medical car” lettering will further differentiate the medical car from the standard model.
The interior also suffered a few changes when compared to a standard AMG GT 63 S. First of all there are four individual racing bucket seats welded to the floor of the car for safety reasons. The front seats are equipped with six-point harnesses, while the rear ones get four-point harnesses. There is an FIA switch unit positioned in the center console and a special radio set that facilitates communication with the race management team. The car’s trunk is equipped with a defibrillator, breathing apparatus, rescue cutter, and two handheld fire extinguishers.
No changes were made under the hood, so the medical car is powered by the same 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 630 horses between 5,500- and 6,500 rpm and 664 pound-feet of torque between 2,500- and 4,500 rpm. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is made in 3.2 seconds, while the top speed goes up to an impressive 195 mph.
